Bowlo ranked among State’s best clubs

14/05/2008 9:26:00 AM
ARMIDALE City Bowling Club has been nominated in three sections of the ClubsNSW Awards for Excellence.

The nominations are in the areas of:

* Outstanding human resource management;

* Encouragement of amateur sport; and

* Outstanding community service.

And the club is stoked.

“Just to be included in the nominations is a ripper,” said manager Phil Wheaton.

“It’s a wonderful reflection on the club and the staff.

“And it’s great to be recognised for serving our community - that’s what we’re there for.”

Mr Wheaton said the nominations were particularly gratifying now that Armidale City Bowling Club is in the medium size club category.

In 2005, Armidale City was named club of the year in a category for small clubs.

“Over the past couple of years our revenue has grown and our membership has grown, but the size of the club has not,” Mr Wheaton explained.

“So now we’re up against the big boys, clubs like last year’s medium club of the year, Diggers at The Entrance.”

The awards presentation night will be held on Friday, May 30, at the Convention Centre in Sydney.

Mr Wheaton, club president Richie Clutterbuck and trainee manager Phil Crick will represent the club.

Walcha Ex-Services Memorial Club has also been nominated for the Spirit of the Bush award.
