Campbell, Brown promoted in Rees' Cabinet

8/09/2008 12:31:00 PM
The Illawarra's two ministers, Keira MP David Campbell and Kiama MP Matt Brown, have been promoted in new Premier Nathan Rees' Cabinet shake-up.

Mr Campbell has been promoted from the police portfolio to the important transport ministry. However, he has lost his role as Minister for the Illawarra.

Mr Brown has stepped into Mr Campbell's shoes, gaining the police portfolio as well as becoming Minister for the Illawarra.

Mr Brown's housing responsibilities have gone to new frontbencher David Borger.

Under the shake-up announced at 11am, Eric Roozendaal has become the state's new Treasurer and John Della Bosca is in charge of health.

John Hatzistergos remains Attorney-General, while Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt takes on the climate change and environment portfolio as well as commerce.

Verity Firth takes over education and training, as well as women.

Axed minister Frank Sartor's planning responsibilities have been handed to Kristina Keneally, while Maroubra MP Michael Daley enters Cabinet as Roads Minister.

Joe Tripodi retains ports and waterways, and regulatory reform, but adds the title of Finance Minister and Infrastructure Minister.

Phillip Costa is Water, Rural Affairs and Regional Development, while Tony Kelly is Industrial Relations Minister, but also heads the emergency services and lands portfolios.

Newcomer Jodi McKay is Tourism Minister and Minister for the Hunter, while Paul Lynch is Aboriginal Affairs, Ageing and Disability Services Minister.

God help NSW. These people had little if no experience in the portfolio they were already in, they haven't even proved themselves. Don't people realise that everytime ministers change portfolio, it costs us a fortune? People move office, stationery has to be changed, ministers need to go on different junkets and the cost goes on.
