Time for new hospital

14/05/2008 9:20:00 AM
The Armidale branch of the Liberal Party is launching a petition calling for the complete re-development of the Armidale Hospital.

Branch spokespeople Rob Richardson and Wendy Berkley said they are tired of inaction.

“We’ve have had the inquiries, we’ve seen the endless press releases, we know what needs to be done - the Armidale district needs a new hospital now,” they said.

“We hope to get several thousand signatures on the petition and present it to the NSW Parliament in a few months.

“In spite of the hard work and dedication of the staff, the hospital has been underfunded and is years overdue for redevelopment.”

Mr Richardson and Ms Berkley believe there is a strong case for ‘building a hospital that can meet the needs of Armidale and district now, and into the next few decades’.

“If we don’t act now, Armidale will be left behind as the State Government continues to rationalise and centralise the health system,” they said.

The petition will be left in businesses and convenient locations around Armidale.

12:50 PM AEST | When I heard that some obscure woman from Alaska had been selected as the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee, my first reaction was not to check the cable news channels, or even the internet news sites. No, my first reaction was to go to YouTube.
