URALLA Tigers are through to the finals of the Group 19 rugby league competition.
After trailing 20-4 at half time the Tigers fought back to win the match against the Inverell Hawks 26-20.
Former coacha and club stalwart Ross Conlon said it was a game where Inverell dominated in the first half.
However, he said that while the Tigers’ defence in the first half may have been quite poor but they made up for it in the second half.
“It’s a credit to the Uralla blokes to turn it round - the fact they were able to stop Inverell scoring in the second half,” he said.
Conlon recognised the performances of two Uralla forwards - Ben Jones and Grant Cooper.
He said the two front-rowers played well all game but really stepped it up in the second half consistently taking the ball forward.
“Glen Swilks had a great game too, he organised a lot of what was happening,” Conlon said.
Inverell Hawks captain/coach Andrew Le Breton said Uralla had played well and came back hard after being behind at half time.
He said the Hawks had four of their forwards out and lost another front rower half way through.
“We had a good season but we were unlucky on the day,” he said.
Le Breton set apart the performances of Aaron Jones and Sam White.
“Sam White played ridiculously well - we just had no troops,” he said.
The Tigers are now looking to their finals match against the loser out of Glen Innes or Tingha.
Conlon said the team would be looking to continue the strong defence they showed in the second half of Saturday’s game.
He said the Tigers should be able to head in to the coming games maintaining the consistency they need in their defence.
“With two games to go there’s no reason why they can’t,” he said.
Conlon believes the Tigers would be a challenge for any team they meet as they can get the points on the board.
Although they had conceded a number of points throughout the season, Conlon said if they defend the way they did in the second half of the weekend’s match and continue to score, ‘every side that plays them has got to be wary’.
